I think it is meant to be more of a reference manual than a cover to cover read but I read it (and to my kids almost)every day. The Old and New testaments aren't meant to be used in the same way but both have their value (and I have read plenty of other books).

Science measures the material world. God by most people's definition isn't material. How could science ever measure that which it doesn't have the tools to measure?
