It did look like a “challenge coin” to me, those big coins that the military give out for various things. But there are no good shots of it.

Yeah I've got hundreds of those stupid ass challenge coins. I can almost guarantee it was one of those. The military has them and the government has them. Each member of the government gets to make up their own one if they want. They are pointless. Just kind of collectables.
