the whole of the mediterranean peoples have been tainted with arab blood in "recent history"--I don't like how these images reflect that more modern idea. Achilles was stated as being blond for instance, which makes me think the greeks had light eyes.

Agreed. I've studied Greek mythology quite a bit and there are several references in myths about light colored eyes, flaxen hair, etc. For example, the goddess Athena is always described as "grey-eyed" as grey eyes were a sign of wisdom.
