In the Mediterranean coast they intermixed with North Africans. Just take a look at most Spaniards, South Italians, French, Greeks, etc. A lot of them don't look white anymore. Second, the creativity and intelligence that make us great goes up and down according to the selective pressures of the time. It has little to do with the skin color.
