Could be. No doubt she was a bad investment, but I wouldn't rule out that this is a midterm shenanigan either.
The publicity this has received has brought to mainstream consciousness the belief (true or fabricated) that public opinion deems any cross-racial halloween costume, under any circumstances, is unforgiveable. It won't surprise me when news outlets start covering more halloween costume racism in the following week, sowing racial divisions and reminding us all of the 'racial tensions that have been escalating ever since Donald Trump was elected president by white male, Republican voters.'
Democrats need minorities to vote for them in the midterms, so the way things unfolded with Megyn sets the media up nicely to bolster them this way. Not to mention, Kelly's exit seemed just a little too perfect. And she's been a political tool before, leaving Fox because of Trump support and sexism as publicly as possible, her book, the Rosy O' Donell question at that early debate.
We'll see what happens. That might shed some light either way.
