In 1849, Frederick Douglass wrote a turgid piece claiming that blacks had built the entire USA on behalf of Whites who had never broken a sweat. He wrote this because he was triggered that Whites were thinking "hey, slavery kinda sucks, it's unproductive and dangerous so let's just have the government buy all our slaves and send them home to Africa" and DC was all "Yeah, y'know, that's probably a good idea."

The guy also fantasized about a race war. Considering that liked to point out that he was a biracial bastard, I am not sure how that he thought that whole race war thing through.

For two hundred and twenty-eight years has the colored man toiled over the soil of America, under a burning sun and a driver's lash—plowing, planting, reaping, that white men might roll in ease, their hands unhardened by labor, and their brows unmoistened by the waters of genial toil

Our minds are made up to live here if we can, or die here if we must; so every attempt to remove us will be, as it ought to be, labor lost. Here we are, and here we shall remain.

the mean and cowardly oppressor is meditating plans to expel the colored man entirely from the country.

Imagine a black man being so oppressed that he literally terms all Whites "oppressor", yet also claims that he is going to fight to stay in a country run by "oppressors".
