The older I get I completely understand the "old racist white dude" more than ever. He wasn't being racist at all actually, he was just being real, and trying to guide the next generation from what he learned. I am slowly turning into this man, and I am fine with it. I can't hold it in anymore. If I hear anything resembling a foreigner having "troubles" or "issues" with america, I instantly respond with, "then they should go home", "get out of america". Like an automatic response.
