Equal opportunity for kids is not a bad idea. I think we should continue giving everyone a free high school education. The problem is is that socialists also want equal outcomes. The problem is not everybody takes advantage of the opportunities given to them. Some are so incapable of taking advantage of a free high school education that they never even learn to read at a high-level. And so when we decide to give the same salary (the same outcome) to heart surgeons and fast food workers, then why should anyone work hard enough to be a heart surgeon. Also, what happens when you put into effect a set of policies that require that 40% of heart surgeons must be of a minority ethnicity? When you put into effect a set of policies that guarantee that 40% of heart surgeons must be of a minority ethnicity (equal to their population percentage), you will end up with a lot more dead people on operating tables.
