Voat had this same ideal regarding down votes about 5 years ago when I joined. Until the popularity rose and the shills and brigades came. Without adapting to this, voat would have just been overrun.
You may see once this site starts to attract the wrong attention. It is a noble ideal, but some people don't allow for that kind of peace. Hopefully the suspicious behavior tag helps, as that type can't help but to downvote.

Bottom line. Voat already did this. Know that history before belittling.
You aren't dealing with people who use a downvote button differently, you are dealing with people who have already fought that battle and had no choice but to adapt.
Voat was forced to adapt or die, so please step down off of that high horse. You can explain without looking down your nose so sharply.
Hopefully it goes better here, as I fully agree with the sentiment, but I also have met those who choose to make it nearly impossible.
