Fuck that. I'm a 5th generation native NY'er (Bensonhurst/Little Italy/now Queens) and still here in the DiBlasio jungle and still think "NY Tough" is gay as fuck.
Tough people don't say they are tough. They just are. Faggots from Connecticut who move to NYC with $20million in the bank use that slogan.
I've been gone since 2005, what do I know. I had a good run from 1972 to then but I can't be there anymore, it just doesn't give back more than it takes.
This city grinds you, man. As a kid and young adult there is nothing like it. As an adult, it just pisses on you and crushes your soul unless you make so much money that you can ignore it.
Fucked up.
I grew up an only child, running wild on the streets of midtown in the 70's, unchecked, in a way you couldn't today. I saw so much talent come to nothing and eventually I came to think that New York does one of two things - it either gives you everything or it tells you to go fuck yourself. New York let me live, but just barely. I think of it as a sucking vortex that feeds on the hopes and dreams of the people who live there.
