The Trump administration has ordered hospitals to bypass the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and send all Covid-19 patient information to a central database in Washington beginning on Wednesday.

...

From now on, the department — not the C.D.C. — will collect daily reports about the patients that each hospital is treating, the number of available beds and ventilators, and other information vital to tracking the pandemic.

>Michael R. Caputo, a Health and Human Services spokesman, called the C.D.C.’s system inadequate and said the two systems would be linked. The C.D.C. would continue to make data public, he said.

Oy vey, don't look at the raw data and see how much we are manipulating it! It's annudah shoah!

>“Only the C.D.C. has the expertise to collect data,” Ms. Shalala said.

Oh really? Why does the other side claim this:

>“Today, the C.D.C. still has at least a week lag in reporting hospital data,” Mr. Caputo said.

The CDC have shown themselves as the most opaque organization in the country with impenetrable access to their data for a normal citizen. I like how they always engage in word play to lie:

>But the Health and Human Services database that will receive new information is not open to the public

How much so was the CDC data open to the 'public'? Or did their 'public' only consist of a few certified, accredited folks and somone who they knew personally or from selection few organizations? Basically not public. OK thanks for clarification.

The best part is, the data not being public is always due to "privacy laws" like HIPAA. The govt only "cares about privacy" when it means disallowing citizens to see what should otherwise be public.

"Can't let the foolish citizens see the real numbers! We're here to interpret for them!"
