You don't have to cut your grass exactly to your neighbor’s preference. Mine is well maintained, but taller than theirs. But maintaining a certain level of upkeep is important because it does affect your affect you. If my neighbors trashed their homes and yards it would negativity effect the value of my property, and all properties in the neighborhood. Trashy homes indicate trashy people, and good people won't move in, forcing homeowners selling their property to adjust the price downwards which is likely to attract more trashy people.
hit it on the head, it's called being a good neighbor. Maintaining a neighborhood is one of the hallmarks of civilized peoples. Look in any ghetto (google map it, I don't recommend entering the ghetto for any reason) and see how well their homes are maintained.
Yeah, I both agree with this and think it should be upheld.
Still, I don't have any interest in being told I need to jump on the bandwagon because I'm not on the bandwagon, hence my preference for being able to live some place that isn't in close proximity to other people.
Completely understand. Living in close proximity to people is a tradeoff. If the costs =/= the benefits in your eyes, then good on you for avoiding it.
