That may be true, but hasn't got a damned thing to do with the subject as written. The feminist movement predated the end of slavery by something like 20 years.
Your female roommate should read a damned history book before making bold proclamations.
Alternatively, you could sanity check her statements before posting them online as though they're grand revelations. That's entirely up to you, of course.
You are implying every woman in America was behind the movement 20 years before this. Her argument is that this really got them motivated seeing former property have rights they didn't. But because she is technically wrong there must be no merit in her argument right?
That doesn't even make sense. She's not technically wrong, she's just wrong.
That is, her statement is incorrect. There's nothing technical about it. It's just plain wrong.
If she'd like to move the goal posts and present a different argument, that's fine. But, this one is just wrong.
A movement takes roots with many because of action. Seeing your human dishwasher and cotton picker get a vote in society while you don't would spur many to join. It is a valid argument that it probably began being a legitimate movement instead of a joke for many.
