Just in case someone wanted to ask:

On Poal, custom CSS for subs can't contain external url.

Images are self-hosted on Poal and you need to use tags to display them.

Thank you!

Just avoid shady links (unknown image hosting url) from new accounts.

Even some of the older accounts post shady links.

I have to ask...

What do you think the average Goat is going to do with your IP address and, if they're not the average goat, what makes you think they'd even want to use CSS to acquire your IP address?

Even with perfect OpSec, there's nothing truly both functional and secure. Even TOR is easily defeated when TPTB can see swaths of the network and use a 'timing attack' to unmask your activity.

So, what do you think the involuntary celibate goats are going to do with your IP address?

I have thousands of your IP addresses - 'cause y'all visit my site. You know what I do with 'em? Nothing. In fact, they're not even stored in plain text. They're hashed and crammed into the DB and then get deleted after x-amount of time. The only time they come in handy is when one of you weirdos decides to try to use you're leet hacking skills to break into my site. (The attempts are laughable and the system will just mitigate those IPs involved.)

Post clearly stated the purpose was to mitigate risk and prevent incels from getting IP, not average goats so first sentence is irrelevant.

Yes you are right.

One of the steps to their unholy grail -- doxing.

Don't know about your site. Never been to it. No interest in hacking it. Good on you for not storing IPs in plain text.

The purpose of my post is to inform / protect poalers from unwittingly revealing their IP address to those who have clearly demonstrated they mean us (poalers) harm as evidenced by their activities here and on voat. There is absolutely no harm in protecting yourself online and you railing against my post puts you in a very suspect light.

How, pray tell, are you going to dox someone with their IP address? They're inaccurate as fuck and barely even accurate enough to point to the correct country in a good percentage of instances.

And, I have no ulterior motives - just a desire to educate. Your IP address isn't private. It isn't even good at determining where you live. It may not even list the correct country.

To demonstrate this, we can use me as an example:

My public IP address:

216.227.92.163

I live way over outside of Rangeley, Maine. I'm NNE of the village.

Go ahead and look it up and tell me how you're gonna dox me for that? You're a victim of someone spreading misinformation for the reasons of FUD.

Again you seem to be replying to things I didn't say, not sure why? I never said you can dox someone with their IP. What I said was "one of the steps to their unholy grail -- doxing.".

Your IP for example gave me your country, state and approximate area (within 100 miles of where you said you live) which also leads to your likely ISP which I could use as a start. That gives more information to target someone vs. anonymous random guy on the Internet.

As I'm sure you well know doxing is not a one shot one kill endeavor. It requires meticulous gathering of data and rereading everything a user has posted for clues. The IP address is just one clue in that puzzle.

I'm not going to argue with you about whether it is smart to protect your IP address on the Internet. We'll have to agree to disagree.

Cheers

There were very few custom CSS on voat worth turning that feature on for but after I saw that post awhile back I officially turned them off for good.
