If something bad happens this city will burn within 48 hours, all cities within a week. There will be a mass exodus into the suburbs and surrounding areas. Without having a hardened target with large security force staying in place will not be an option for long if you are even remotely close to a city.

As it stands my plan is to grab my go bag at the first sign of trouble and get out before panic sets in. I won't even bother trying to drive, I will go on foot. I will follow the train tracks from my city up to the mountains, this will keep me off roads and largely away from people. I will only move at night until I get out of population centers which I can do in 48 hours. I will be out of the city in 20 minutes of leaving. I will try to find an unoccupied secluded cabin or dwelling up in the mountains. There are a lot of such places and chances are the owners will never make it to them, if they arrived I would leave if they asked me to do so. There is a ski resort way up on the mountain with a large cabin at the very top, it would be very difficult to get to for most people. This is one place I have in mind.

This is just a starting plan to get me to a safe place away from immediate danger. I think the ultimate goal would be to join a group.

When I was in the service as soon as I experienced real violence I understood that soldiers were being used for something very wrong. I realized that there was almost no justification for what I was seeing and doing. The way I mentally coped with what I was feeling was by thinking of war as nothing more than a deadly game. I thought my chances of survival weren't great but I would play the game to the best of my ability and see what happens. I suspect if SHTF I would simply play the game again and see how long I could survive.

I was good at the game too, but there is danger in thinking of it only as a game, no second chance. I want the odds stacked soo far in my favor it’s not even funny.

A sad reality for me is that I will not be able to get to any of the people I love as they are all across the country.
