I slipped through the cracks. The school system completely failed to normalize me. I hated and resisted every aspect of it. John D. Rockefeller would have been so disappointed in me.

Same. People have been conditioned only to make the grade so the 'good' students develop the skills necessary to expertly consume and vomit up information. They are the "i took that class before and forgot everything about it" types.
In my case, I learned how to study well and have since built a foundation for independent study which I use to this day to adapt to anything.
