A song written for a musical made by jews to paint the last successful white nationalist movement as scary villains, priming the pump for the holohoax to follow.
To my point before about the Edelweiss Pirates and their seduction of the youth, the song performed between the young man and the eldest daughter “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” is full of the allure of premarital coed mixing and sexual exploit, “a page for men to write on.” The dance is often an artistic representation of sex. Even using the jazz/blues/rock and roll “Baby” to describe her is part of it. In essence, Rolf is trying to guide her to productive marriage and away from the temptations in the wild. In the end, though, she chooses “Edelweiss” over life with Rolf and the Reich’s traditional values. Rolf himself is almost seduced by it, torn between his love of Liesl and his love of country. Eventually, he’s overcome, disarmed (his “weapon” removed, a symbol of sexual defeat), and all he can do is call for help from his fellow soldiers.
That said, I am all for appropriating it for white people, even making it an anthem, but it’s important to remember who wrote it and for what purpose.
btw Rodgers wrote the lyrics, Hammer(((STEIN))) the music.
Hammerstein was the lyricist. Both were jews.
