Hydrate, take breaks in the shade/AC and keep an eye on your fellow workers. We had to call the rescue squad for one of the guys earlier, probable heat stroke. Dude passed out and almost rolled off the roof. Paramedics covered him in those "inst-cold" paks for ride to hospital.

Will update on the guy when I find out.

Edit; The guy will be ok but he has decided that roofing is not for him.

My job fucking sucks and it is really hard and very labor intensive and often outside in the the sun. Everyone I work with is a faggot and so are the customers.

That being said, please remember that hydration is only half the battle, and you should be considering electrolytes as well, ie sodium and potassium, because you lose those during the sweating process, and if they aren't replaced, it can lead to bad muscle cramps and retardation. The best solution I have found is to eat a banana covered with peanut butter and salt before going out for the day. Cheaper and healthier than Gatorade. But don't forget the water.

Sounds effective, but I don't like naners. Potassium supplement pills, tomatoes and oranges for me.

If you don't like bananas, please allow me to give you the following instructions on how to truly enjoy eating one:

First, you gotta peel the skin back, but you gotta be real careful not to bruise the flesh underneath it. Yeah, gently, just like that.

Then, take that big white fruit right into your mouth. Large, right? We grow 'em big nowadays.

Feel how firm it is? Just ripe enough for a real tasty treat.

Now for the fun part. Bite down on it real hard, don't be shy, that's why it is in your mouth in the first place.

Masticate it.

Masticate it hard.

Masticate it until it is a thick white mush.

You feel that white mush in your mouth? Tastes good, don't it?

Now comes the tricky part. Your going to have to swallow it for me. I know you want to spit it out, but ignore that instinct. It's good for you.

It's got potassium.

Yeah, take it down, take it all down.

Swallow all of it, let me watch it slide right down your gullet. There you go.

And that's how you enjoy a banana!

I also have some suggestions on how to enjoy a banana, most involve sticking one in a different orifice.

I'm a paper pusher, but fuck, now I'll have to try this.

Hydrate, cool off, and recover electrolytes. Be proactive, being well hydrated before laboring in the heat makes a world of difference.

100%. I drink coffee in the am, which is a diuretic. Have to guzzle the h2o to counteract.

Yeah man hydrate and take breaks. Hope dude is ok. I had a co-worker die at work and that shit is crazy.

We saw a guy croak from heatstroke during boot camp, even though they put him in a bathtub of ice water. Did take the corpsmen about 30 mins to get to him, was on IST day and none of the new recruits wanted to make waves.
