They used mobile jet engines to put out oil well fires in kuwait after the gulf war. The russians even have a twin engine version mounted of a deuce-and-a-half. They do exist and they will tear shit up with ease. You think it's dumb even though it's real. Have you heard of a crazy invention called a helicopter? Some of them can fly in heavy equipment an place it wherever they need it. Evacuations are also a thing so if everyone was forced to leave, who's going to hear/see it?
It's a far more logical and feasible concept than space lasers but I don't hear you calling out people talking about space lasers...
