By the looks of it he had 90 seconds max to stop the bleeding or die. A neck wound can't get a tourniquette either. Everyone ran away instead of running to help, which to me is a bad sign. He would have needed an expeirienced battle field medic to survive and even then his chances are only so so with that wound.
