He should have been armed (pistol, OC spray, etc.) too.
In the Reddit discussion (reddit.com) the guy mentions that he does have some good spray and a pistol. He has a responsibility to not escalate things (though I'm glad he used the line "because I'm not a cave man").

Well I'm glad he was armed. Normally the people involved in these encounters aren't. He kept a cool head for sure and he doesn't have to deal with a future headache with the law. I just wish these assholes got what is coming to them.
