Well, I'm not really prepared for this question and I'm not a scientist. Ostensibly, you are right that I can only judge the truth of a claim based ONLY on the work of others. I'm trusting them to tell me the truth as much as I am trusting anyone claiming flat earth stuff.
However, I can judge the veracity of each groups claims by proxy, comparing the predictions that each group makes. Overall, I estimate the globe model predictions to be so accurate that I can take a plane from the states to eu in like 12 hours.
Of course, they could all be conspiring and lying to me, but considering how no one that I know can keep a secret I suspect that is highly unlikely
