"My range, my rules. You look like a sissy who can't handle a hand-cannon, you need to prove to me that you can handle it before I allow you to shoot it freely. Don't like it, find somewhere else to shoot." This is a TRAINING issue, not a "nanny state" issue.

I'm not advocating that the state nanny anybody. I'm advocating for responsible training. That means not handing weapons above the skill level of a trainee to them. This is pretty simple, it's not about freedoms, it's about being sensible.
