To a large extent, this mindset is due to women running everything these days. Women are inherently security-loving. This stems from their need to protect their babies and small children. It's an instinct in the female sex that woman's lib has not quite succeeded in destroying. Women in government will almost always choose what they believe to be the safest option. They are often completely wrong in their choice, but that is what motivates the choice. The result is a society that is afraid to take risks, afraid to innovate, afraid to stand alone.
