Okay, the grabbing their own arms was made up by the author who wrote hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy, they can survive a 100 foot drop and fall from trees once a week but move ow on the ground and wild cats will hunt them. 90% of sloth death is when they poo because they poop 1/3 their weight per shit and takes them a few hours making then easy prey.
