They're just on autopilot for the most part. But there are people who would fail some version of the mirror test or basic cognition. I think the main core of their ideology is that corrupt governments and genocide is something that USED to be a thing but in our modern world this is impossible. You cannot discuss the possibility of aliens with people who are 100% committed to an ideology that does not allow for aliens to exist. It's the logical phallacy of disproving something before you even start. For most people to objectively even weigh the facts would require them to first turn their entire world view upside down and inside out. I hear it all the time. "The election was rigged" and they'd swear up and down that it's "Impossible" to rig an election, they won't even consider the possibility. Of course if you're this stupid you also don't know the difference between Impossible and Improbable. Side Note: You notice how people more and more use words incorrectly? Especially adults. It's disgusting, and when you correct them they get violent and aggressive.
