After a year people will be looking for enclaves of survivors beyond just the handful of personally known hold outs most of us are associated with. The dangers will shift from hide and survive to a more complex game of who can you trust to not stab you in the back when you are vulnerable.

I don't think it'd take a year for a band of roaming niggers to be sweeping through neighboring communities looking for women, food, and arms.
Holding out will be difficult if you've got a lot of access ways.
My suspicion is that the collapse will slow-roll through the regions, while those in power not lucky enough to be exploiting the situation try their hardest to stay afloat.
