Not if you are trying to wake others. You need people to survive off grid. Sure a few solo people can grow old and succumb to nature. What you need is a group of people sufficient to breed with, and other groups to interbreed with.
Its a numbers game, don't look too short at the immediate problem, keep your eyes on the final prize. We get though this kind of event with numbers, not individuals.
The first year is going to be pure survival if there's an actual collapse. After a year people will be looking for enclaves of survivors beyond just the handful of personally known hold outs most of us are associated with. The dangers will shift from hide and survive to a more complex game of who can you trust to not stab you in the back when you are vulnerable.
I don't think it'd take a year for a band of roaming niggers to be sweeping through neighboring communities looking for women, food, and arms.
Holding out will be difficult if you've got a lot of access ways.
My suspicion is that the collapse will slow-roll through the regions, while those in power not lucky enough to be exploiting the situation try their hardest to stay afloat.
