I find sambo or even pancrase much more suited for "everything goes" type of situations. Sambo is good mix of prety muh everything https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyfuuFs6Ai4
While gracie jj or bjj might be the ultimate weapon in a duel (the one clueless about it will probably get his ass literally handed to him), it's definitely a big ass mistake to go to the ground right away during a street fight especially against multiple opponents
The "chute boxe" approach to it, is the right one IMO. It's muay thai all the way, but with a black belt in your pocket which you use to escape every bjj/wrestling/locks attempt, and then it's stand up right away and low kick in the face
It's nasty but it's pretty efficient and realist, nothing fancy, straight to the point
The top UFC champions are overwhelmingly high-level wrestlers.
UFC is a duel with a referee, rules, and a safe environment
I'm not saying those guys aren't effective in a street fight, I'm saying going to the ground should be the last resort, for obvious reasons
100% agree. It’s a good demonstration of what works and doesn’t work against trained opponents, but BJJ isn’t enough. Having that combined training of standing and grappling will give you the best chances.
Living here in western Europe I'd say you should not only avoid going to the ground, but avoid any conflict with multiple opponents. Literally all the shit skins you'll encounter are armed at least with a knife and they never fight one-on-one. What I like about BJJ is that it's relatively low-risk compared to the other full contact martial arts, you don't need the same level of athleticism as in MMA and is still effective in certain situations. Great sport also for woman, since you can't rape a girl with BJJ skill unless you knock her out.
