Well, maybe it's to lower chances of death? Because in this case it failed (tasers fail like 2/3 or more of the time), the savage was able to reach the top of the steps only having been shot maybe once, and he landed 2-3 blows with a metal pipe on the officer's head. Cop went unconscious as he was shooting. I posted a link to jewtube video that shows other bodycam angles where you can see the cop laid out on top of the dead guy, sleeping.
It's an important lesson- you can have the perfect shot on some insane person charging at you with a rudimentary object, and he can take a bullet plus a taser and still bash a skull in before he goes down. Practice your marksmanship.

While I feel this was justified, I also feel it could have been handled better. Pepper spray the guy outside then subdue him.
The cops need bullets that stop the aggressor. I have seen to many videos where the aggressor takes many bullets but doesn't slow down and still gets to the cop.
