Of course, I agree the "church" was a cult, but just how bad was it? David Koresh was a bit over the top and may or may not have used the group for his own sexual needs. However, what the government did there to murder those people was just outrageous and in your face pure murder.
If they wanted David so badly they could have waited till he went to town and just arrested him peacefully. Then fight it out in court. But that wasn't the goal. The real goal was to totally crush and wipe off the map the entire compound and take over the property. The government mostly succeeded.

CHAZ, CHOP, Antifa, etc are not threats to power. One man providing insight into the human condition and spreading that information to peopla all over the world IS a threat. The more I learn about Waco, the more it becomes apparent that the goal was to crush a budding religious movement that could have threatened existing power structures.

IIRC he was also on amicable terms with the local sheriff, who I think went on record as saying "All they had to do was tell me they wanted to talk to him. I could have simply called him up, told I needed him to come down to the station, and he would have done it."
