Ammo is particularly good for bartering because it has tangible, immediate utility and easily transportable, you would carry it on your person at all times anyway, each bullet is worth something but not too much, like you could swap a 308 for a free range egg or a cup of milk.
Precious metals, jewels anything you can carry from the looting. It isn't wise to trade ammo because it will become scarce and you will need it to save your life.
