As with most everything I find out there on the internet, I try to cross reference for credibility. I had a bunch of different sources that seemed completely unrelated saying similar things.

You never know when something is just confirmation bias bait meant for us to pick up an run with, only to be discredited later. Making us look like complete dumbasses. This could be precisely that and that's why I put "know" in the title.

It does match other things I've seen, so either ALL of those people were tricked or it's actually based in reality.
