Other groups have threatened the same. The military. The nurses. The airlines. Etc etc etc. When it comes down to losing your paycheck, over and over, in many different disciplines, about 20% say they will quit. When the employees are suspended and the paychecks stop coming, a lot of them cave and the numbers plummet. Overall we've seen numbers that are about 1/2 of 1% to 3/4 of 1%... (0.5 to 0.75 percent of people) actually quit. And a lot of them are just posturing, they were going to retire anyway and just choose to grandstand over it.
Our state had a bunch of county Sheriffs and state patrolmen write to the governor and state legislature about that, threatening to quit. They postured and they bullied and they made noise... and a sum total of two officers quit in the entire state.
I'll believe it when I see it.
