Immunity has several meanings related to various levels of insusceptibility—absolute or otherwise— from harm or obligation in various contexts. But in this case it is the state of being highly resistant to a *disease* because of the formation of antibodies or of immune cells to a pathogen. It does not imply a total imperviousness to infection of a virus. Cells need to signal the immune system and the immune system needs time to react.
