We were discussing an experiment dubbed "Mouse Utopia" on the poalcast. In the experiment, a bunch of mice were given a good, but enclosed habitat and left to their own devices. At first things were good, but once the population reached critical mass, their social order began to degenerate, with disastrous results. There's lots of detailed analysis of this on Youtube.

Anyway, in the final stage of this dystopia, "The Beautiful Ones" emerged.

There are some parallels to be drawn between these damaged mice and the non-monstrous masses of humans we hide ourselves away from in this underworld.

But mostly I just think it's a good name and very fitting for this paradigm. If we are monsters, it is because we exist in contrast to those who are beautiful. Thus, I will start calling non-monsters Beautiful Ones.
