WASHINGTON—A federal judge said he was considering whether to hold Trump administration officials in contempt of court for failing to return deportation flights carrying alleged Venezuelan gang members to the U.S.
During a court hearing Thursday, U.S. District Judge James Boasberg grilled a lawyer for the administration on the timing of the flights and pressed for detail on whether it had deliberately flouted his order, which has become a focus in the clash between the White House and the judges it says are overstepping their authority.
Boasberg said he thought the Trump administration “acted in bad faith” on March 15, the day he temporarily blocked it from using the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to move Venezuelans to a prison in El Salvador.
