NASHVILLE, Tenn. Gov. Lee signs bill punishing street racing into law - Harsher penalties are coming for those convicted of illegal street racing. Governor Bill Lee signed a bill into law this week making this a reality. Now, those convicted face the chance of facing up to '6' years in prison.

This comes after incidents of illegal street racing were reported in cities throughout the state, and some leading to crashes that have resulted in death. Along with the increase in prison time, the new law raises the penalty from a Class A misdemeanor to a Cass E felony, accompanied by a fine of $3,000. Prior to all of this being put in place, law enforcement agencies have upped their patrols to cut down on these types of illegal activities.
