1997-2001 I was totally buried in my engineering career, working 12+ hour days to meet outrageous new product introduction schedules while trying to enjoy life in my limited free time. I was oblivious to social media back then. No wonder I missed it!

Back then we didn't even have any HTML restrictions in our posts. We could use any color, font or gimmick available. And when people forgot to close their tags, every subsequent post displayed the same effects. It was quite interesting for a while.
