The American public is not ready for the broad adoption of electric vehicles. There are maybe 10 percent to 12 percent of people who really want
an electric vehicleto be limited to a 250 mi driving range, several hours wait to fill up the tank, limited filling stations, the certainly of a $10-20k repair bill plus hazmat disposal fee after 8 years, the inability to escape a natural disaster via congested roadways, the prospect of freezing to death in a wintertime roadside emergency, and the documented risk of a fiery death in my sleep from a battery fire in my garage.
The toxic strip mining, hazardous waste disposal at the end of life, and the 3rd world slave labor are just bonuses to the piss poor product.
