The author is purposefully conflating rank-and-file employees with high-ranking political appointees and heads of the three-letter agencies. The 'putting people out of jobs' argument. Yes, those people should be out of jobs, but not because they're the 'deep state' being talked about. Their jobs shouldn't exist at the Federal level to begin with.

In my opinion, big government is dangerous to society and needs to be torn down. There is no other way. The current system can not be saved. I'm more of an anarchist anyway and don't believe government solves problems, but creates them. The Atlantic is associated with the criminals who would be out of a job, so yes, they're scared. They want to scare the voters, you know, the same way they scared us with the flu covid and tried to kill us with vaccines.
