Or it was a kneejerk reaction by DOJ to appease/protect Archer before he spilled his guts because Archer thought the regime had hung him out to dry? IDK.

I guess that could be, but what does the DOJ have to fear from Archer? They've been successful at dodging any responsibility for their crimes for years.
