Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has blocked legislation proposed by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) that would ban the TikTok app from U.S. mobile devices.

“This legislation not only violates the First Amendment of those who own TikTok, many of whom are actually Americans, not Chinese,” Paul said. “But it also violates the First Amendment rights of the millions of young Americans who use this social media app.”

Paul said that there is no difference between TikTok’s behavior and the behavior of other Big Tech social media corporations as he blocked Hawley’s attempt to fast track the legislation on Wednesday.

“Every accusation of data gathering that’s been attributed to TikTok could also be attributed to domestic big tech companies,” said Paul, who added that banning TikTok could make the Republican Party even more hated by young people.

“If Republicans want to considerably lose elections for a generation, they should pass this bill to ban TikTok.” he added. “A social media app used by 150 million American people.”

That bill is toxic as fuck and should be blocked. https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/restrict-act-bill-tiktok-rcna73682 The "Restrict Act" is worse than the Patriot act and applies to the internet with zero real oversight or transparency and those in charge of it would be IMMUNE TO FOIA.

They will also be able to take any/all of your $$$ and property if they decide to. Its insane.

When "both sides agree" you should be very concerned.

Rand is right, they all spy, they all suck up all your data at all times. The idea they don't is absurd, and ones that can prove they don't suck up XYZ pieces of data are irrelevant because the NSA sucks it up and sells it to Israel anyway, and then they just buy it from "private companies" in Israel that get fed their US NSA data from Unit 8200.

How are they spying?

The data is stored on DNS - Domain Name Servers & Resolvers that are owned by private third party corporations.

In the case of TikTok that is Amazon - AWS and another American company called Akamai Technologies Inc. so they have access to all the data the CCP collects on us.

DNS isn't a data store.

I understand what DNS is. Other than maybe a cache of URLs to resolve the DNS provider is t storing any data about you. They might know what sites you've visited but that's a little it. They won't know data you've submitted or received on that site.

I'm not sure it really constitutes "spying" on you. I mean you could just start using a different DNS provider and they'd be shit out of luck.
