The guy should at least be a pilot...

So, he's par for the course then. I don't think any of Biden nominees have even the faintest inkling what they're supposed to be doing.

Why should he be required to know anything about the FAA or aviation in general? He’s a negro and a shoe-in for the job.

They've been pushing to run it without any knowledge of aviation. This has been the case for a decade now. It's shameful.

If only people understood the reason you're not regularly, safely flying around in small aircraft is because of the FAA.

We really need several categories of aviation; light, uncertified, certified, experimental, and commercial.

I'd propose:

light - generally no oversight, simply requires compliance with FAA regulation. Restriction on speed and weight. Example, paraglider.

uncertified - mass produced, single engine, aircraft which self certify to FAA certification requirements and explicit notification where it does not meet the requirements. Also allow for aircraft made by designers for production numbers (say, more than 12 per year) and x-number of safe operating hours.

certified - what currently exists

experimental - what currently exists. Basically new aircraft development and home built. Many current experimental aircraft could be moved to the uncertified category after testing and development and moved into production.

commercial - any aircraft manufactured for commercial operation, excluding flight schools.

This would drastically lower the cost of aircraft and aircraft ownership. You could own a plane for $60,000, new, with a 15-year loan. That's roughly $400/mo. People pay more for many cars and especially trucks.
