"Social Security Fairness Act of 2023

This bill repeals provisions that reduce Social Security benefits for individuals who receive other benefits, such as a pension from a state or local government.

The bill eliminates the government pension offset, which in various instances reduces Social Security benefits for spouses, widows, and widowers who also receive government pensions of their own.

The bill also eliminates the windfall elimination provision, which in some instances reduces Social Security benefits for individuals who also receive a pension or disability benefit from an employer that did not withhold Social Security taxes.

These changes are effective for benefits payable after December 2023."

Government pensioners get a lot more now than those that paid government tax to support the leeches/government employees.

If they want FAIRNESS, then stop the pension system and make them save under 401k systems.

The original intent of the reduction for people also receiving private pensions was good. Super wealthy folks with huge corporate pensions didn't need to dip into SS funds as well.

What actually happened: Say you work a job and pay into SS for 20 years which entitles you to a sum like $3000/mo. Then you work a union job for 20 years, pay into the union pension fund instead of SS and are entitled to $3000/mo from that 20 years.

Instead of getting $6000 total, your SS benefit is cut to $1000 because you are one of those rich folks who don't need it.

Spending 40 years working a single job would have earned you $6000. You get screwed for starting SS then transferring to another pension fund.
