I think the most likely answer here is to prevent them from running in 2024.

Why wouldn't (((they))) want Pence to run? The more "Republican" infighting, the better from the left's point of view.
My only thoughts is that he still doesn't have enough to win, and the diverted vote numbers probably isn't worth it. I heard or read somewhere that their 'secret' weapon is Michael Obama.

It costs them nothing to sow discord among the ranks of voters, and Big Mike is no real secret. He'll likely be the Dindu Hindu's VP once Biden resigns.
