When you are trying to obfuscate text in documents, font matters.

Sans-serif fonts like Arial allow people to write "Corney" as if it is "Comey" if the size and character spacing is small. "HiIIary" here is spelled with two capital I characters instead of the l character.

Serif fonts - like the one they barred - make it much more difficult to obfuscate in the same way.

The most shocking revelation in this article: they used Courier font until 2004. That's the black knee-high socks with sandals look of the document world.
