All you need to say in order to sell anything nowadays is say we're interconnected, we have shared problems, we can't wall ourselves off.

People keep falling for this shit because they love the idea that they can be considered altruistic for ignoring the reality of their actions. It's funny, because by pretending to be selfless altruists and going along with the meaningless, empty platitudes, they are actually exercising the most selfish act of preserving the flimsy status quo of their illusory contentment and kicking the can of responsibility down the road to the next generation that will have to suffer from these decisions. It makes me so god damned sick to see these smug psuedo-altruists pretend like they are good people for burdening their children with disenfranchisement just so they can feel good about how the pretended to view a fucking border jumping spic criminal as having a "shared problem."
