Buying voters
Those seeking to have their student debt balance eased won't need to log in with or enter their Federal Student Aid credentials or provide any loan numbers or upload past records that show whether an individual received Pell grants as part of their federal aid. They also won't have to enter any tax information or upload tax returns proving their income falls into the bracket eligible for loan relief.
Because the Federal government already has all of that information. Whether they check it or not is on them. Making people send copies of records the government already mailed to them in the first place is no guarantee of anything.
This. Department of Ed has all the FAFSAs.
Similar to how PPP loans required basically zero evidence, and after they realized the inevitable massive fraud later they were selective about the ideology of the people they decided to go after.
Rules for thee, but not for me. I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.
Oh, only people below a certain income are eligible?
So the people not producing much for the nation are the folks most eligible? What kind of logic is that? Free up the dollars for the people who are making money from their educations.
Just tie each university's eligibility for student aid to the default rate of their graduates. That will make universities cranking out baristas ineligible for student aid.
Not graduates, but to job placement and make that job placement be "2 years of continued employment post-graduation."
Or do a mixture of both your idea and mine.
Thoughts?
Unis would just make all the courses easy (they have done this already at some community colleges) to get their graduation rates up. Saw that happening when I went to college (I'm not a kid but I'm likely younger than most, here).
The default rate means the number who aren't paying their loans. If it's above some level you disqualify that school's students from being eligible for student loans.
