Income tax needs to be abolished. It is burdensome, unfair, and deceptive. Millions of man-hours are wasted filling out income tax forms every year. They could be liberated if the taxes were transferred to other tax concepts such as sales tax. We would see clearly how much we are actually paying in taxes, and it would no longer be possible for some people to do better than others on their taxes. A flat income tax is a good start, if it is truly flat and isn't fiddled with every year. It would simplify much of the income tax mess. Ronald Reagan ran on the concept of a flat income tax, but was unable to get it in place.
